The Week of April 27th at Lupine Lane

Hello all! Lupine Lane was at the Cedars Montessori Spring Festival and a neighborhood Spring Party this weekend, and boy, were these events fun! We tie-dyed our hearts out! Thank you to Cedars Montessori, Steve Wolf and his neighborhood for having us! What a great time!

Kid Kits are the newest addition to Lupine Lane!!! Each handcrafted project kit contains a Lupine Lane project "to go," which will be a fun solution to lazy summer afternoons! Each kit contains everything a kiddo needs to construct a unique, creative project. These will eventually be available online at www.lupinelane.com (our home site is getting a big makeover, to better communicate with all of you!). For now, you can order by calling or emailing Lauren (512-565-1501 or lboyle@lupinelane.com). Below is a list of Kid Kits currently available for purchase. The Mom (or Dad) and Me Frame Kid Kit makes a heartwarming, homemade gift for Mother's or Father's Day!

This week in classes, we'll finish up our Colonial Session. In our next session, we will use Dr. Seuss stories as our inspirations for learning and creating!

In Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art, We'll begin in circle time and discuss the important role of the village candle maker, since there was no electricity in colonial times! Then, we will be making our own candles and a candle holder!

In Lil' Kinder Cooks, will begin in circle time and talk about the fact that cheese was a staple in colonial times, since it was simple food made from animal milk. Then, we will be making our very own farmer's white cheese (also more elegantly known as fromage blanc). Then, we'll bake some crackers to eat with our cheese!

Drop off classes begin this Thursday in Lakeway! Absolutely Art is from 2-3pm and Kinder Cooks is from 3-4pm! Come join in the fun!

Lastly, we are working on plans for an end of season event on a Saturday in late May at Clay Madsen Recreation Center! More on this to come very soon!...

The Week of April 20th at Lupine Lane

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! Just a reminder to Lakeway folks, there will not be class this week. Classes will continue April 30th, and we will add drop off Absolutely Art and Kinder Cooks in the afternoon! To sign up, click here for the registration form. Then, turn it in or mail it in to the LAC (105 Cross Creek, Lakeway, TX 78734).

This week we'll continue with our colonial theme!

In Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art, we'll begin in circle time and discuss how the English traveled to the New World and brought the English flag with them. As time passed and the settler's gained independence, they began to fly their own flags. The kids will paint their own flag that reflects their personality. Then, we will take a look at what the town potter did on his wheel and learn how to make a piece of pottery without a wheel, by creating a pinch pot.

In Lil' Kinder Cooks, we'll begin in circle time and talk about how the Native Americans already occupied the land when the settlers arrived from England. They shared their corn with the settlers and taught them how to grow their own. Corn was one of the most abundant crops in the New World, so many dishes were made with it. We will make corn chowder first, and then we'll make a desert that used rarer ingredients. Spices were coveted since they were imported. So, ginger snaps were not so common, but enjoyed by all colonial children!

See you this week!

The Week of April 13th at Lupine Lane

Happy Easter, and a BIG thank you to all of you who came out to Round Rock's Egg Hunt! What a fun morning!

This week in Lil' Absolutely Art, we will start our session on Colonial Times. We will begin with our circle time greeting song and talk about the role of a soapmaker in a colonial village as well as how the soap was made. Then, we'll move to the tables and make our very own soap!!

Lupine Lane is now offering a drop off version of Absolutely Art for 4-7 year olds from 1:45-2:45pm at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center. The kids will do the same projects, but independently. If you know anyone that is interested, please pass the information along. Drop off Absolutely Art (2-3pm) and Kinder Cooks (3-4pm) begin April 30 in Lakeway!

In Lil' Kinder Cooks, we will continue our colonial theme by beginning with a greeting song in circle time and then talking about food in colonial times. We will discuss how settlers purchased staple items to make nearly everything from scratch. Then, we'll make bread and butter, just like the settlers did...from basic, fresh ingredients!

More and more children are joining in the fun at Family and Friends Playtime! Come on out and invite your friends! The more the merrier!

The Week of April 6th at Lupine Lane

Happy Easter from Lupine Lane!  A BIG thank you to all of those who came out to the 2009 Eggstravaganza this past Saturday in Lakeway.  We'll be contacting the winners of the Bunny's Jelly Bean Belly this week!

To all of you in Round Rock, Lupine Lane will have tables set up at the Egg Hunt in Old Settler's Park beginning at 9am on Saturday, April 11th.  We'll be dying eggs and decorating cookies!  Hope to see you there!

This week in classes, we'll be celebrating Easter!  We'll begin our colonial theme next week.

In Absolutely Art, we'll read "I Need an Easter Egg!" by Harriet Ziefert.  The kids will decorate Easter bags and then dye hard-boiled eggs to put into their bags.

In Kinder Cooks, we'll read "Bunny's Big Bake" by Kristy Neale.  We'll then bake and decorate pastel-colored Spritz Cookies, which we'll make using a "cookie machine!"

Bring your friends to Family and Friends Playtime for songs, free play and parachute fun!
