The Week of June 22nd at Lupine Lane

Happy Father's Day!

"There's something like a line of gold thread running through a man's words when he talks to his children, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself." ~John Gregory Brown

To all of the Fathers overseas, we wish you a Happy Father's Day and a safe trip home. You are always in your children's hearts.

Thank you, to all of the Fathers, who have helped us become the people we are today. Whether we are 25 months old or 25 years old, you are and always will be our hero.

We'll be at Miss Julie's Learning Center's open house this Friday after Kinder Cooks. We'll be tie-dying our hearts out again! If you or anyone you know is looking for an incredible preschool, come on by and check out all of the fun at the open house!

Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art
This week in Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art, we will be making a "message in a bottle!" We'll be painting cute, kid's sized water bottles. Then, we'll write or draw something special about ourselves to place into the bottle. Then, we'll make a wind chime using sea shells and sea glass.

Lil' Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks
In Lil' Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks, we will be making our very own sushi! Sushi actually means "Sticky Rice," so it does not actually need the raw fish to be classified as "Sushi." The kids will have a chance to create a custom "maki" or sushi roll! We will learn about the different ingredients in sushi, including the special short grain rice, the "nori" or seaweed encasement, and the different vegetables and ingredients. The kids will use bamboo mats to roll their maki themselves! Then, the children will get a short lesson on using chopsticks from Mr. Carl. If there is time, we'll try to make some fortune cookies!

Lil' Music Makers and Music Makers
In Lil' Music Makers and Music Makers, we'll use "Marching Around the Alphabet" to practice our 4/4 rhythm. This song will be loads of fun as the children will demonstrate their knowledge of letter recognition! Then, we'll practice our resting beat again, before introducing skipping beats with "The Horse Went Around." Next, we'll use "I am a Fine Musician" to practice our instrument recognition. Finally, we will use "The Popcorn Game" to practice our listening skills and applying sounds to interpretive movement. We will also review some songs from earlier classes.

Fun With Photography
In Fun with Photography, we will be using our backdrop again to take some group photos. The kids will frame the photo and then work with the self timer to get a picture of themselves. We will use the white background and lights to prepare for creating a high contrast image. Then, we'll play freeze dance and encourage the kids to strike a fun pose when the music stops. We'll then put the photos into Photoshop and create black silhouettes on color backgrounds. It's sure to be a lot of fun! Check out our nature photo turned watercolor from last week below!

The Week of June 15th at Lupine Lane

Hello all!

Last week, we implemented a work-shopping period into some of the Absolutely Art classes, where the kids displayed their project and the other students volunteered something nice to say. I really enjoyed this, and I think the kids did as well. This process will help the children to understand a bit more about how to review art and create a stronger community within the classroom!

I feel so fortunate to have heard all of the wonderful, hilarious and often incredibly intelligent words that come from your kids. I have to say, some of the things that come out of their mouths are absolutely priceless, and there are so many times I wish I could share with everyone! So, I am going to add "The Things They Say" at the end of the blog and include an especially memorable quote from a student. Check it out at the end of the post!

Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art
This week in Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art we'll be making sand castles using sand clay! We'll talk about different parts of a castle, like the main building, the keep, the bailey, the porticullis, and the ramparts. Then, we'll also paint a watercolor Father's Day card for Dad! We'll discuss a bit about how to properly use watercolors. The term "watercolor" is actually instructive. The pigments are used to color the water, and the artist uses that colored water (or watercolor) to paint a picture.

Lil' Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks
In Lil' Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks, we'll be hand-cranking spinach pasta, then toss it with home-made butter and Parmasean cheese. Then, we'll use a turkey hot dog to create an octopus to sit on top of our seaweed pasta! We'll also decorate a cookie for Dad for Father's Day!

Lil' Music Makers and Music Makers
In Lil' Music Makers and Music Makers, we'll be working on rhythm with resting beats using "Rags," "Six Little Ducks" and "Ti-de-o." Then, we'll work on more instrument recognition using "Down in the Valley." We'll also review some other songs that we've already done for some repetition to encourage the children to commit some of the lessons and songs to memory.

Fun With Photography
In Fun With Photography, we'll be heading outdoors! We'll be working with natural objects to concentrate on focus in close ups and composition. Then, we will head back inside to put the photos into Photoshop and add some fun affects that will highlight the natural objects.

The Week of June 8th at Lupine Lane

Hello to everyone!

First, we would love to thank the folks at Falcon Pointe for having us to tie-dye at the Summer Splash Bash!  We had a great time and enjoyed seeing all of the wonderful, unique creations that everyone made!

Kid Kits are starting to go quickly!!  A new Kid Kit, especially for Father's Day, is making it's debut!  The Happy Hat Kid Kit ($14) includes everything a child needs to decorate a baseball cap, just in time to give it as a gift to Dad for his big day!  The Mom or Dad and Me Frame Kid Kit ($17) is also a lovely way for children to create a one-of-a-kind gift for Dad.

The heat is on, and we are into the summer season!  How exciting!  On to this week's classes!

This week in Lil' Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art, we'll be reading "Toy Boat" and creating our own toy sail boats!  We'll be painting the body of the boat and learn a bit about the parts, including the main mast and bow and the sail.  We'll also personalize the sail.  Then, the kids will paint an acrylic painting on canvas of a sail boat sailing into the horizon.  We will give a quick explanation of the vanishing point and creating a horizon on paper in Absolutely Art.  Then, we'll finish by having a toy boat race!

This week in Lil' Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks, we'll be reading "Clam-I-Am" and making New England Clam Chowder!  We'll talk a bit about how clams live their lives inside of a tiny shell and learn how they survive in the vast ocean.  The kids will learn how to saute vegetables and how to make a cream broth.  And, everyone will get to try authentic New England Clam Chowder!  Deelish!

This week in Lil' Music Makers and Music Makers, we'll begin with an introductory song as well as a review of rhythm and marching.  We'll use "The Ants Go Marching" to practice our rhythmic and marching skills with instruments.  Then, we'll begin to learn more about the names of the fantastic instruments that we use with "Old Mac Donald Had a Band," "The Spider on the Floor" and "The Dinosaur Song."  Finally, we'll also use "Blue Bird Through My Window" to encourage interaction and group cooperation.

This week in Fun With Photography, we are asking that each participant bring a 3-D item that is special to them.  We are going to learn how to situate objects and use lights in a photo tent.  Then, we'll bring some of our photos into Photoshop to create a black and white photo of our object in the tent.  Also, those children that are signed up for the month and received a portfolio, remember to bring your portfolio to class again!  Check out our Andy Warhol Pop Art Photography from last week below!

Please check our calendar for class times and dates.  We are able to prorate classes, so it's never to late to join in the fun, unless a class is full!

We are looking to another fun-filled, ocean-themed week ahead!
